Update on the Model A

YIEPIEH!
I passed the German street inspection (TÜV) with my 1930 Model A Coupe!
No problems at all, the rod is now officially registered as a historical vehicle here in Germany.

As the mounting work for hood & 32 grill is finished, I am now preparing the parts for painting.
Hood + Grill Shell will be painted in gold, Fenders will stay matte black!

Status Quo:
Hood: 50% Rust & 50% shiny steel:

Mounting Front Fenders, 32 Grill, Hood on my 1930 Model A Coupe

To pass the German TÜV and legally register my Hot Rod here in Germany, we needed to make Fenders & a hood for the Model A.
Luckily, Mario (with the 34 Ford Sedalivery) helped me a lot with those parts and we worked in his Hot Rod Garage.

Let's start with the story on how to make the front fenders:

Materials I bought:

Steel fenders from farm tractor supply
12mm stainless stell rods
M8 screws & nuts
2mm stainless steel plates

Here you can see one original fender, and the other fender which has already been chopped.

The front fenders were supposed to have a width of 130mm:

We removed the complete drums, backing plates etc., and drilled holes for the 8mm screws into the backing plates of the brake drums. Then, we used the 2mm stainless steel plates to make the mounting socket for the fender struts on the backing plates. Inside of the backing plates, we welded the M8 nuts. This is what it looked like after some hours and mounting evrything together:

Next thing to do were the fender struts, we used 12mm stainless steel rods, welded them against the mounting sockets on the backing plates, and bend them:

Next thing to do was to cut them at the right position, to bend them over the wheel radius:

Then we flexed 1/2 off the rod, this would then be the locating surface for the fenders

Same thing for the fender on the passenger side:

For getting the car street legal in the short term, I will also mount the original bobbed rear fenders, next thing is to also mount Cycle Fenders on the rear!

We also started to mount the 32 Steel Grill and 1930 Hood:

The grill was mounted pretty fast, it's almost plug & play, it just had to be mounted about 1cm higher than the former 1930 Grill Shell:

To reach the brake fluid reservoir, we needed to extend the existing (on the pic) very very small whole on the floor:

We also had to replace the membran of the brake fluid reservoir, as the old one was broken.

Finally I managed it to meet with Mario, and we started to finish the work on the Model A to make it ready for German TÜV.

Including: Preparing front brake drums for mounting cycle-fenders, replacing some bearings & the Kingpins, mounting the 1932 Ford Grill, preparing the hood etc... work ist not finished, yet...but plan is to get the German registration within the next 14 days!

I had the pleasure to meet him at Daytona Bike Week in 2004, and I took the chance to have a 5min chat with him which I will never forget.

I felt addicted to Custom Bikes & Cars since I was a very little kid.

My first bike (what a shame!) was a Kawasaki EN 500, after 1.5 years I sold this bike and bought a Suzuki GSX-R 1100, my first Streetfighter back in year 1999/2000:

I drove this bike for almost 2 years, sold it and bought a crashed Kawasaki ZX-9R.
My buddy Bastian and me completely re-built this bike from Oct 2001 until August 2002. This was my first complete-from-the-scratch custom-made Streetfighter!

The ZX9-R was the traded in for a rigid frame Fiedler Suzuki GSX-R 750 in late 2002:

Next new project bike in year 2002 was a "Rau" with Kawasaki Z1000 engine! Originally, I bought the Rau like this:

After some months, it finally turned out like this: Custom swingarm, Suzuki TL 1000 front end, custom headlight, custom seat etc... etc....

This bike also had to go, so that I was able to afford my absolute dream bike in year 2004: A Martek!
The Martek was bought in UK and looked originally like this:

As you can imagine, we started to take everything apart and completely re-built the bike.
Stage 1 one of the Martek looked like this for season 2004:

In early 2005, Stage 2 followed:

Late 2005, Stage 3 followed, including custom made alumium seat, exhaust, fender and much more made by my friend Dirk KaSuDuC:

In year 2006, I also started a complete new project next to the Martek: A Rau special frame with a CBR 900 RR Engine!
That's what the bike looked like when I bought it:

-As I did not really like that look, we started to completely re-built the bike which means:
New seat, frontend, wheels, headlight, speedo etc....

-Then I sold the bike to my buddy Jan who put some more work into it, and this is what the bike finally looks like in year 2010:

As I sold most bikes after I finished customizing then, I do have ONE keeper in my garage, a bike I would not sell for any money! - The final Stage of the Martek as of today, including an awesome Old School Airbrush made by my buddy Andras Bathory from Hungary (www.ab72.de)!

Other than bikes, I have also been very much into US Cars, owning a '77 Pontiac Firebird, a '90 Chevy C1500 until finally in year 2010 came true an I got my Ford 1930 Model A Coupe!

I am sure there is more to come in the future!

A dream came true with this beautiful 1930 Ford Model A Coupe.

The car was completely re-built starting in 2003 by UK Hotrodder Bob Booth, and he did an amazing job!

I bought the car from the second owner Chris Easton, who also out some major work especially into the Engine! -And now it's my turn to put some work on this beautiful late 50's/early 60's Rod!

Some technical specs of the coupe:

BODY:

Original steel body,1932 steel dash panel,new wood kit,original recored rad ,chrome surround,stock ford headlights,1950 pontiac rear lights,stewart warner gauges,mullins column tach,moon spun aluminium petrol tank,TCI fully mounted chassis.

ENGINE.

New chevy 350 when built(now aprox 6000 miles) performer cam,roller rockers,Dart aluminium pro 1 heads,cloyes duplex timing chain,Edelbrock dual carb setup(endurashine) topped with 60's Cal Custom badger scoops(very rare),Edelbrock vintage style finned rocker covers,mallory unilite distributor,stainless steel Limefire headers(complete stainless steel system) Only ARP bolts used on engine.

TRANSMISSION:

TH350 with shift kit,B&M deep sump,oil cooler,Lokar 23" nostalgia shifter.

REAR AXLE:

8" ford(57 Ranchero),3.8 Eaton Locker(Hauser built),chrome ladder bars,Alden eagle coil over shocks,TCI rear pannard kit

FRONT AXLE:

Magnum 4"drop beamaxlw,TCI hairpins,TCI perches,stainless steel shackles,lower shock mounts,steering arms,draglink and tie bar.SoCal upper shock mounts.

BRAKES:

Rear stock finned Ford 8" drums,front 1958 buick finned drums(servoed)

WHEELS:

Tri spoke Radirs ,rear 7x15, front 4.5x15

INTERIOR:

Full custom diamond pleated including trunk and roof panel in white vinyl,chrome garnish moldings.

SPARES:

Various spares including original steel bobbed rear arches(the car still has fixing studs to refit fenders if required)The car has a hidden removable tow bar and electrics

To pass the German TÜV, some modifications of the car are necessary, such as:

Mounting a hood (probably I will only mount the top, not the side hoods)

Mounting fenders (I probably mount some kind of small cycle fenders all around)

Can't wait to hit the tracks in 2011!

Originally, the Power-Fighters Streetfighter Club & Homepage was born in year 1999! Nowadays, more than a decade later, we are back in the web with a new blog!
